The last week of fishing for chinook in Area 9 has no doubt been the toughest for me since in opened up 5-6 years ago. The 16th was obviously hot for most in north A9. I wouldnt really know because I replaced by fuel filter the night before the opener and forgot to put the gasket back on. Needless to say I broke down 200 yards outside the marina and had to paddle with my net back to the dock. I got up and runnin a few hours later and still managed to get some nice fish but since then king fishin seems to just get slower and slower for me. Ive managed to scratch a few out each day but damn im working for them. Dont get me wrong I do love tryin to hunt down fish. Im just curious if anybody else has done any good.... Things ive noticed are the kings seem to be waay shallower this year. Im a big fan of Mid Channel... The amount of boats fishin way up high on the bank this year is crazy. Lots of boats fishin 40-70 ft of water and far less boats fishin the standard 90-120 line. Early on I noticed that downrigger dudes were getting outfished by moochers. So for the last 4 days ive been moochin which is actually pretty cool if youve never done it. Especially when you hook into a hot fish. Tried fishin evenings the last 2 nights at no point. It wasnt much different then the morings. Fished a little local derby over the weekend. Heres a couple fish that got me 9th and 12th. I won 250 bucks and a disc grinder. Now I just need to go find somethin to grind my sorrows away.... ...
Brandon...Good luck fishing in this weekend's derby with Nellie. I have you down as a marked team to beat! That's got to be killing you to miss the first few hours of the morning waiting for Nellie to get finished with the radio show? Or, are you going to be fishing locally for a couple hours while waiting?
