Back to the basics - Old School

Postby Ray G » Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:59 pm

For the last 20 years I have drift fished with a Shimano Bantam 100. Today I just received a new "old" reel.
My first Pfluger Supreme! My dad fished one all through the 70's and I thought it would be kinda fun to catch a Steelhead on a classic Steelhead reel.
My question for you guys is, what rod should I pair this classic with?

Pretty cool tribute to your pops big Ray. That thing looks like it's never been used! I'd have to agree with Tony on that one....or perhaps an old Lami. Keep us posted!

I can think of a classic loomis that would look good wearing that. I believe it's currently sporting a classic bantam...

Big Ray! I have a split bamboo drift rod that you have to try with that reel! It was my father's rod and I have caught a steelhead on it. It's pretty sweet, nice cork handle and even though the rod pre-dates built in ferrules, the metal ferrule is nicely wrapped. You have got to check it out. I will dig it out and take some pics!

Ray's reel and Nelly's rod, what a great tribute to the guys that taught you how and instilled that love of fishing.

I have a few of the oldies myself given to me from my dad. Pair it up with a 8'6" 8-12 Lami and you're set for freedrifting eggs on small streams.
