Good read, great story and just another reason for me to keep a safe distance from a spey rod... :D

These move to the two handed rods has been a real plus for us older anglers.

There is enough rod so that one can cut 4 feet off the butt section for a great wading staff and you still have enough left for a very serviceable rod. LOL
I find that I rely on a wading staff more and more.

I hear ya Smalma. Wading never used to be a problem for me...then I turned 40 and now my feet don't seem to move as fast. I see a wading staff in my future.

The first portion of the blog was totally me last fall trying to figure out a "tree" like spey rod. What sucked was my buddy and I had already landed a few in the hole we were fishing and while he was ducking and telling me everything I was doing wrong, fish were rolling in the tailout. My gear chuckin' Lamiglas was sitting on the log nearby taunting me but I vowed to spend some time figuring it out. Twenty minutes seemed to be about enough! :D

My first post on this forum, I had to climb a tree and hold my phone up risking my life to get a signal just to say what a great read that was... totally worth it!
