Bizzare depth readings

Postby eenakok » Sat Oct 05, 2013 2:35 pm

I am starting to think this HDS is possessed.

We have noticed a trend. The FF reads the downrigger balls 10 ft lower than we have them set at. For instance: We set the ball down at 60 and it is showing on the screen at 70. The interesting part is that we are trolling with a 30 degree angle.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks!

Hey D,
First off try zero-ing your downriggers. With the ball at the surface, set the counter to zero.
Now, dig into your Installation Menu and check the Keel Offset. For your purpose, zero or one should be fine. Keel Offset takes into account the fact that your transducer is not exactly at the waters surface. For most trailer boats, the transom mounted ducer is two or.more feet under water.
So, a little downrigger counter error plus a keel offset boo boo could add up to ten feet!

Thanks!
I will try the keel offset. We have the the weights zeroed at the water. Thanks for the input.
