Early Goose

Postby Ruckus » Sat Sep 10, 2011 8:08 pm

Got the season started off right up in the Snoqualmie Valley this Saturday. Not a ton of geese around for the early goose opener but enough to get the barrels and calls warmed up. Morning started out with about a dozen geese backwinging into the spread, we knocked down six, called the rest back and whacked three more. Another group of 8 landed in our dekes, we made the mistake of getn greedy and tried to get the next flock to land as well, while in the mean time the geese on the ground were walking away from our spread. When we finally shot they were 35 yards out. We knocked down two of them and the morning was over. 11 geese in all. Saw some small groups heading back to the roost around 10:30 but no more headn our way.

You guys need to pick a date when you can come over to Quincy and break that bad boy in! Tried posting some pics but they're not loading for some reason.

I wanted to get out but couldnt swing it. If you dont mind sharing how many dekes did you have out? From what I heard on the radio show it looks like getting them to commit wasnt an issue.

We had been watching this field for a week and only seen about fifty geese or so using it so we didnt want to use a huge spread. We set up about 2 1/2 dozen dekes and it seemed to do the trick just fine.
