FRESHWATER

Pass Lake has been producing good numbers of fish for fly fishermen. One customer said he was at the lake when the truck came and delivered a bunch of good size triploids into the lake. He said they were biting pretty well on Woolley Buggers.

Reports from up at Lake Shannon have been hit & miss. The best fishing has been up the lake at Thunder Creek and Noisy Creek. Some decent size fish have been caught though.

Lake Samish is finally starting to turn on for kokanee fishing. A few fishermen have started to locate some nice size kokanee trolling down about 30 feet deep with standard kokanee gear. Pete Zimmer (former tackleshop employee) took his mom out for Mothers Day and managed to limit on Wedding Rings and Pautzke corn.

SALTWATER

Halibut fishing has started off pretty well this year. There were numerous fish caught for the first three days of the season. Kevin (tackleshop employee), Mike (our bait supplier) and I took my boat out on Thursday to Smith Island. We went all day without a decent bite. People did send us some pictures of nice fish though. The hot spot sounded like Partridge Bank but there were fish caught on the other banks as well. Mike Lindquist got a 90 and a 95 on Saturday. We had numerous halibut from 20-50 pounds weighed in on the scale at Holiday Sports too. That is tough to watch when you’re stuck at work. The tides look good for the next three day opener and the weather looks like it will cooperate too!

Lingcod fishing has been holding up pretty well. Watch for good catches this weekend with good tides and the wind looks like it should cooperate.

UPCOMING FREE SEMINARS

This Saturday, May 14th at 10:00 AM we will have local expert Randy Nelson speaking on Kokanee fishing. He did a great seminar last year and it was maxed out with over 100 attendees. Call in to us here at Holiday Sports (360-757-4361) to sign up for a seat, we still have a few spots open. There will be free door prizes & snacks! This would be a great seminar to hit up if you are fishing the Kokanee derby at Lake Stevens.

Saturday, May 21 there will be a free “Basic Fly Fishing” class limited to 12 seats. This class will be given by Ed Megill and will cover:
1.Basic Fly Fishing Theory
2.Fly Rods & Fly Lines
3.Fly Casting Concepts
4.Intro to Knots & Rigging
5.The “Bugs” (flies)

Start time will be 10:00 AM and the class will run 2.5 hours. Another class will be offered on June 4 if classes are filled. Sign up early! Call us here at Holiday Sports to sign up!
