Everett Coho Derby "Practice"

Postby Nelly » Wed Sep 16, 2015 2:06 pm

After a relatively tough Edmonds Coho Derby, it has been a pleasant surprise to find a few silvers slapping around the Sound!

Mark Yuasa of the Seattle Times and Wayne Kruse of the Everett Herald stepped in on Tuesday and each picked up a limit of respectable coho!

Today was a a fairly quick six-fish limit with an improving average size.

Tim and Chris Beard were the lucky anglers that will be busy on the BBQ this afternoon.

The coho seem to be just off the edges of the deep "canyon" water in Puget Sound (The "head" of one such canyon marked by the red house icon). Navionics SonarCharts provides the best view of this deep structure and allows you to accurately position yourself accordingly

We're headed out again in the morning and will be trying for some bigger coho! cheers

Hey Roman,
Welcome aboard! The biggest fish came at 35 feet on a whole herring and the deepest was at 120 later in the morning on an Ace-hi tipped with herring behind a Coyote flasher.
Good luck! cheers

Still solid silver success today despite the change in the weather.

Gary Morris and Rick Nelson of Roy Robinson RV with their limit of chunky coho!

The coho were biting better earlier and shallow than later in the morning with the last one coming at 120'.
As far as a common theme goes, Pro-Cure Brine & Bite cured herring strips on Ace-Hi flies were the ticket and keeping troll speeds up around 3.0 MPH

Good luck in the EVERETT COHO DERBY!!!!

Nelly,

How'd you guys do for the derby? Saw your boat tied up at Bayside early on Sat. but didn't see you on the leader board. Looked like you guys had it dialed in pretty good earlier in the week though.

Hey K,
Welcome aboard and we did have some decent action during the week but Saturdays are a different deal for Robbo and I.

We broadcast the show live from Harbor Marine on the first morning of the Everett Coho Derby from 6-9am. That makes it tough to start fishing at 10am on derby day and from what I understand the eventual winner was already in the box by then!

I did get out on Sunday and we put a few in the box and then we had to respond to a distress call as a vessel was adrift with five souls on board.

Unfortunately, this is the most memorable pic from my weekend but we did get these folks safely back to the dock.

I'm not complaining or making excuses, it's just tough to crack the leaderboard of the Everett Coho Derby and my hats off to those that did! cheers
