Sand Dabs In MA 7

Postby SJFish » Sat Apr 28, 2018 6:41 am

Has anyone had any luck catching sand dabs to use for Ling Cod in Marine Area 7. I will occasionally use a greenling, but is it worth it trying to target Sand Dabs?

Hey SJ!
It's more of a kelp greenling program in the islands but if you look around Lopez Flats, you'll find those little dabbers! cheers

Dumb question from a rookie Nellie. How do you get to the kelp green lings?

No such thing as a dumb question T,

Look for shallower rocky structure (<80' generally) that's harboring a lot of growth and yes, kelp is a big factor but you may find greenling among other hiding cover and vegetation.

Small herring, mussles, squid baited up on hooks no larger that 1/0 should catch enough kelp greenling for you! cheers

Thanks for the info. I guess you pack some lighter spinning gear with you for this endeavor?

Yup! Having gear specifically for jigging bait saves a pile of time re-rigging.
It's a great way to increase your fishing efficiency! cheers
