Muley's and Missile Silo's

Postby Robbo » Mon Nov 28, 2016 6:23 am

Just returned from another successful deer hunting trip to Eastern Montana. We got lucky this year with the weather. Just days before we arrived the daytime temps were in the 70's and the deer were only moving at night. Temps were in the 20's our first day with light snow and the muley's were on the move. I spent a lot of time studying OnXMaps property ownership data and Google Earth this past year to come up with some public ground that we hadn't hunted before. That research payed dividends and all four of us ended up filling our tags.

Here's some photos of the three of the four bucks we tagged...

This is what the country looks like in Eastern Montana. If you know what to look for you can spot deer a mile or two away. If you can see them though...they can probably see you. It's not nearly as easy as it might seem.

After tagging out we did some scouting and shot a few pheasants. We're only in Montana once a year and we just had to look at some new deer areas...ya never know

Our ventures afield turned up this old Cold War nuclear bunker. We walked around this old building and it was kinda spooky. You can see the air-lock doors on the side of the building and inside there were what looked like control rooms. When the ##it hit the fan the last vestige of the human race would be found inside this building. Spooky!

And right out back is this...a missile silo. They were all over the place actually. In doing some research I learned that there are around 450 nuclear missile silos in remotes parts of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. Or at least that's what it says online ;)

We had fresh venison back strap at our household a couple of nights ago and all I can say is WOW! Those wheat-fed Eastern Montana muley's will rival anything on the BBQ...simply fantastic drool
