What's the diffence between the "outbox" and "sent messages"?

A message in the Outbox hasn't been sent yet and a Sent Message is just that. Sometimes if there's a temporary server problem a message will hit the Outbox and just stay there waiting for a server hookup. Hope that helps Pogue 8-)
