Craig, Alaska Saltwater Adventure
We’ll join Outdoor Line host Rob Endsley for a saltwater fishing adventure targeting king salmon, halibut, ling cod, yelloweye, and more out of the small town of Craig, Alaska on Prince of Wales Island. Craig is known for its phenomenal king salmon fishing and we’ve reserved a prime date in the heart of the 2010 king salmon run for this trip.
Trophy king salmon, some weighing in excess of 60 pounds, congregate in the islands near Craig to feed on abundant schools of baitfish before heading to rivers further south. In addition to the mass migration of salmon thru these waters a local hatchery bolsters the king salmon run here, making this area a destination for anglers wishing to tie into one of the west coasts most revered fish. The technique used is mooching, which lets the angler feel the bite, set the hook, and fight the fish without the aid of downriggers and cumbersome trolling gear.
Craig is also known for its outstanding halibut and bottomfish action, much of which is a very short run from the salmon fishing grounds. Halibut fishing is excellent in the waters around Craig and limits are generally the norm throughout the summer. Ling cod, yelloweye, black rockfish, and a plethora of other bottomfish species are also available.

Formed by the construction of O'Sullivan Dam across Crab Creek in 1949, the impoundment flooded thousands of acres of shallow feeding habitat that are a magnet for dabbling and diving ducks in the Pacific Flyway. The lake holds astounding numbers of widgeon, pintail, teal, bufflehead, canvasback, redheads, wood ducks, goldeneye...
